Dollars

The U.S. Mint has intermittently produced the dollar coin since its establishment. Initially, dollar coins were minted from gold or silver, but contemporary ones are typically made from various base metals. Due to its declining popularity as a circulating coin, the U.S. Mint started minting dollar coins exclusively for collectors in 2012.
