Kennedy (1964-Date)

The Kennedy Half Dollar was introduced in 1964, following the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. Originally produced with a silver clad composition from 1964 to 1970, it was later changed to a copper-nickel alloy. By 2002, the United States Mint stopped producing the coin for general circulation because of reduced demand and usage. Until 2021, collectors could only obtain uncirculated and proof versions either directly from the mint or through a reputable coin dealer, after which production for circulation was restarted.
