U.S. Currency
Currency within the United States has existed in some form since 1690 when colonies printed paper money to help fund military expeditions. However, it would not be until 1861 when the U.S. Government issued "demand" notes, affectionately called "Greenbacks," that a more standardized currency system was created. Currency, as well as the country's banking system, continued to evolve even after the Federal Reserve Bank was established in 1913.
